New Door Garden Club Launched

The new Door Garden Club was officially launched at The Clearing Folk School in Ellison Bay Tuesday, April 25. Executive Director, Mike Schneider, gave a presentation about Jens Jensen, landscape architect, visionary, and conservationist who founded The Clearing in 1935 to the group of 22 men and women, then led a one-hour tour of the property.

The next meeting of the club will be held at Lucky Stars Flowerfarm in Ellison Bay Tuesday, May 23, where owners, Jane and Kouros Mohit, will provide an inside look at their flower farm operation. The couple expect "loads of tulips" to be in bloom at that time.

Other meetings and events to be sponsored by the club in the coming months include a luncheon, floral design demonstration, and small flower show at Horseshoe Bay Golf Club in Egg Harbor June 27; a garden party fundraiser at Anchored Roots Winery and Vineyard in Egg Harbor Monday, July 24; a flower photography field trip August 22; an "Everything You've Always Wanted to Know About Flower Shows" presentation September 26; and, a luncheon and 'Orchid' program featuring Wisconsin author, lecturer, and Master Gardener, Erica Hannickel, at Horseshoe Bay Golf Club October 24.

The nonprofit, independent Door Garden Club's purpose is to enjoy and foster an appreciation for the beauty and value of plants, gardens, and green spaces. Interests include conservation, garden history and design, horticulture, floral design, flower shows, botanical arts, and photography. Events and meetings are open to anyone interested as space allows. Sign up for these on the club's website at doorgardenclub.org is required.
